Getting to know people results in getting to know myself. The former is like discovering the mysteries of a neighboring valley, the latter is like a sinkhole opening in your living room and finding something had always been just under your feet, waiting.

Sometimes its something I've always taken for granted, and I'm happy that others are happy to receive it when i give it to them. Sometimes its just a hole, a seemingly bottomless and unsettling hole.

"Character' is in fixing that hole.

Item one: if I want other people around, it doesn't pay to ever be sullen and uncommunicative.

What is your Alignment?
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Neutral Good

A Neutral Good person tries to do the 'goodest' thing possible. These people are willing to work with the law to accomplish their goal, but if the law is corrupt they are just as willing to tear it down. To these people, doing what's right is the most important thing, regardless of rules, customs, or laws.

What Kind of A Writer? meme
You Should Be a Blackmail Letter Writer

Your characters are weak, but you have a good grasp of simple plots and active verbs.

The style is blunt, yet will make compelling reading for a select audience.

Okay, I'm Pretty Good With This. Now I Have To Go Dominate Something.

Should you be MALE or FEMALE?*

Yeah..."creative" as in thinking up fifty ways to kill with a table lamp! "Sensitive to my environment"...as I stalk a bull moose to kill it with my bare hands! And "expressing myself freely"...through incisive use of descriptors in haiku and senryu! Yeah -- um, yeah!

I'm overdue for response from Intergalactic Medicine Show, Space and Time, and for two stories from The Town Drunk. And Aoife's Kiss won't tell me when they're publishing the story they bought. WTF!

I feel very awkward saying this, but things are going very well right now. I am not accustomed to acknowledging this. Being in an emotional crisis keeps petty complainers away. I feel also that I am not taken seriously unless I am about to rip something's head off. Without umbrage and an overblown sense of entitlement, I fear I will fall into a decline.

I need a favor of my women friends.

Could you go to OKCupid.com, look up the profile TimWB, and critique it?

I'm having my usual problems of many visitors, no communication. This implies that my photo and general stats are drawing attention, but the profile text isn't compelling.

I really would appreciate it.

Vaya Con Carne, Match.com & Nerve.com
I had been a member of Match.com and Nerve.com for about ten years.
I have been print and web personal ad dating since the late '80's.
Three married couples I know met through personal ads.

Year five of both sites should have been a tip off.
Currently Match.com advertises "if you don't meet anyone in six months, you get another six months free" (of our ill-suited, ill-used service).
Going to Nerve.com is especially aggravating. Article after article of people with unruly hair and useless degrees having well-lit, artfully described pecadillos.

My friend in Mike in Manhattan and I joke about the cliches in the ads: "as comfortable in jeans as in an evening gown", "whip smart", "looking for partner in crime", etc. But these are all perfectly nice women, and I've only had one really bad date out of dozens over the years.

Is it too much to ask for a fan or a geek from these sites? Seems so. The only fans on sites are in their twenties, and that ship sailed when I was 37.

After all, who said that fanatics just redouble their efforts?

Now I lack patience with the process.

So Match.com and Nerve.com and all the rest of the sites, believe me when I say "It's not you, it's me. Me, as in 'Me don't like you.'"
